Tabula Rasa E3 Coverage
First Look: NCSoft Tabula Rasa
by Sean "ConerVallore" Neubert
When I first arrived at the TR booth I was amazed at some of the in game footage
that was going on around us. So much has changed over the last year that it's
hard to say where to begin. First off the game plays much like any single
player 3rd person action/shooter game would. The WASD keys move and clicking
the left or right mouse buttons will fire/use your weapon or skills. The left
mouse will fire your gun (or item) and the left mouse will fire your current
selected logo (spell). You can store up too 6 weapons or items in your weapon
cycle and can move between them with the "Q" key much like you would move
between weapons in a FPS. The "E" key will cycle though your current available
logos (3-6) the same way. Once you are in the game playing you will be in a
mouse look state like a FPS (only in 3rd person). When your cross hair moves
over a target it will lock onto the target until you move the cross hair to far
away from the target. When we started the demo I was guided through a few
missions by an NCSoft employee who used the voice chat system to take me step
by step through my first time playing. The voice system works perfectly and was
very enjoyable. To chat via voice you simply press the "V" key to talk (text
chat is also available).
Unlike the old TR we where given a mission by an NPC who told use we needed to
help out the front lines by taking out some Thrax scum. We left the city we
where in and started down into the battle field (no instancing at this point).
We where quickly attacked by a few Thrax troops and I had a chance to finally
test how combat was going to work. I pulled out my machine gun and ripped
through them. I noticed that combat damage happens very quickly and I could
tell that while playing TR we will be fighting huge numbers of enemy's unlike
other mmos where you fight 1 or 2 at a time. Once you have your target in your
sights a white bar will start to fill inside the cross hair. This bar
represents your accuracy. This bar will be affected by many things including
range, movement, skill and the length of time you start targeted on that
monster.
Check back around 3:00pm PST Thursday for the Tabula Rasa E3 coverage continuation.

Thanks!
