Codemasters' VP David Solari raises the bar with RF Online

In addition to our earlier discussion with Codemasters' Vice President David Solari, we also talked about the release of RFOnline and how the market's newest MMO has fared in North America along with Codemasters' upcoming plans for the online world.:

LQGaming Services:: RF Online is Codemasters' first MMO release in North America. How has the first month since release gone?

David Solari: The first month has gone very well. We've had a great player response. There have been a couple minor teething problems but generally speaking the service has been run very well.

LQGaming Services:: What changes - via patches (if any) - have been made since the game was released?

David Solari: There's a wide range of things we want to do to enhance the player experience. We're working with CCR, the developer of the game, to get the player locked in [to the game experience]. We've got a very aggressive plan to unveil additional content on top of [what's in-game already].

LQGaming Services:: So new content will be coming in patches on a fairly routine basis?

David Solari: Very regular basis -- yes. We've got a got a great update plan.
" The sci-fi meets fantasy nature of the game fit [the theme] quite well and be acceptable to mostly everyone in a Western audience. "

LQGaming Services:: The art style of RFOnline is more in the same vein as FFXI and Lineage 2 - more Asian/anime influenced. Tell us about the decision to go with this style as opposed to more traditional thinking in MMO graphics.

David Solari: It was a range of titles we looked at and evaluated in Korea and the West as well. The sci-fi meets fantasy nature of the game fit [the theme] quite well and [would] be acceptable to mostly everyone in a Western audience. We don't think it's going to appeal to everyone but we think there's a real niche there that it's really going to work for.

So yeah, we thought the style was stunning and really, really interesting. The factions are so very different, you've got the Bellato with their big necks and the Cora (those sexy elves) and the Accretia cyborgs. We fell in love with the visual style of it all.

Do you think you'll ever get too old for video gaming?

Absolutely, we all have to grow up sometime.

Maybe, when real life demands more of my time.

No way, video gaming will always be an entertainment option for me.

Never, I'm looking forward to pwning my grandkids.

I don't know

Anyway!
