After the Fall
Icarus Studios soars to new heights with Fallen Earth
With Exclusive Screenshots!
In the early 22nd century, after years of fighting terror, pollution, and global warming, mankind is pushed to the edge of extinction. A global pandemic spirals out of control. a deadly virus that mutates over and over.
As the game begins, 99% of the human population has been destroyed ...
The few humans that are left, struggle to survive in a world on the brink of utter catastrophe.
You are one of these survivors . on Fallen Earth.
A fascinating premise, LQGaming Services: wanted to find out more about a game taking place in a future that might not be so different than our own.
So, during this year's GDC, we jumped at the opportunity to be the first to sit down with Icarus Studios VP of Business Development Christophe Watkins for an actual one-on-one in-game preview of Fallen Earth.
This post-apocalyptic-based MMO takes players to one of the last enclaves of human existence, an area surrounding the Grand Canyon.
One of the most important aspects of Fallen Earth is its well crafted and very mysterious storyline. Watkins points out that the plot of any
doomed world must be believable.
And, while as scary as it may seem, Fallen Earth is
very convincing. From genetic manipulation to mutating viruses, Fallen Earth's history extrapolates current, real world conflicts as well as achievements in biotechnology. It is a fate perhaps closer to reality than we'd like to believe.
Graphically, Fallen Earth is outstanding and can only be compared to games such as Half-Life 2 or EverQuest 2. Players have a vast selection of character customizations, from the normal skin and hair changes to body piercing and tattoos.
In addition to clothes and armor, players will be able to attach weapons to different parts of their bodies, such as the hips, back, arms and legs, adding an extra level of bad-ass to your character. Fallen Earth also has an amazing Day/Night and season system that makes the world truly lifelike. Watkins was able to speed things up for us so we could actually see the different seasons in action. In Spring, new plants and vegetation start to spring up. In Winter,
snow blankets the world with little to
no foliage standing.
Fallen Earth will also feature a full physics system based on the AGEIA PhysX Processor.
Audio in Fallen Earth takes a front seat with real voice-overs for NPC's and Dolby 5.1 / 7.1 support. Watkins tells LQGaming Services: that Icarus Studios plans to do a lot with the Fallen Earth soundtrack, including applying a noise meter to every player that may tip off an NPC to your whereabouts. So be very careful. Avoiding noisy body armor such as chains, or even sneaking through the brush, may be the best approach in any combat situation. If an NPC hears you, look out. He might call his buddies and you could be in a world of hurt.
