My weekend as a rogue

In my last P&P campaign, I played a multiclassed fighter / rogue. I fell in love with the rogue part of the combination, and wanted to see what it would be like to play a rogue in Stormreach. So I loaded up the game, and joined the server. I clicked on create and began my masterpiece.

I really loved the sly little halflings, and the bonus to dex was really something I was looking for as well, so that's what I chose. I went heavy into dex with a smattering of points in everything else to try and reduce the negatives. It was not a well rounded character, and yet I was hoping the high AC from dex would really help me out.

I put my points in the skills that don't cost twice as much, which suprisingly, I had enough points for, even with my low intelligence. I picked the duel wield talent, as my name was Wiley Two Blades, and I thought it would look silly to just run around with one weapon. I guess I could have just suffered the penalty and used 2 swords, but I digress.

I ran the gamut of the first and second level dungeons. From butcher road and 100 kobolds, to finally the water works. By the time I got to 2nd level, I had really given this character a work out in a weekend. I was very excited with this build. Though I didn't tend to hit much, I did do a fair job of not getting hit and adding a bit of damage while disarming traps and finding secret doors quite a bit.

And like I said, I could stay out of traffic when I needed to. The only downside to this build, was that when I did get hit, it was painful. To help mitigate this, I would use sneak alot. When we got to a group of monsters, I would turn hide on, and let the tanks engage the enemy. This would give me good opportunity to get beside or behind the monster to help increase my damage.

If we had multiple mobs being tanked, I would switch between a few targets, so that I did not get a great deal of agro built up on one mob. If a shaman was blasting our cleric, I would step in, and try to keep that monster busy. Better I get low on health, or even die, than our cleric not be able to heal.

Armor was another issue that I had to deal with. Because my dex was so high, I really had to pay attention to what armor I wore, so I didn't put something on that negated my dex bonus. What's the point in spending the points on your character sheet if you're just going to waste them later on. That might be something I account for in my next build.

All in all, I had a great deal of fun playing this class. Parties looked for you, and depended on you, but not in a cleric sort of way. Whenever I play a healer, I hate when a group member dies. It always feels like my fault. Where as if someone is to fast and doesn't hear my warning of TRAP in time, and get fried, I tend to chuckle. Thinking that maybe next time they would listen a bit better. I guess I'm just a rogue at heart.
