Who is Vahlara?
Level 62 Vah Shir Warrior
Vahlara is an NPC that only lower level characters will encounter. She is a Vah Shir warrior that assists with gaining experience on several different levels within the mines of Gloomingdeep.
Upon gaining access to the mines of Gloomingdeep, you are given a list of people to talk with to guide you along the beginning parts of EverQuest. Vahlara helps you along the way by giving you armor as well as giving another quest. She is one of the first NPCs that a new character is to speak with, so she will also expose you to one of the different ways to gain a quest.
Upon hailing her, she will speak to you about escaping as well as other things. Below is the dialog that you will see:
This is where you experience one of the ways to gain quests. If you take careful notice to the way Vahlara responds, you'll notice that the word "others" has been bracketted. So you should respond with something similar to what you see below:
You will then see the following:

The mines of Gloomingdeep is one of the zones created during the Dragons of Norrath expansion. It is a low-level exclusive zone that can only be accessed from levels 1 through 10, and is nicknamed, "The Tutorial Zone". |

Vahlara says, 'I'm glad you managed to escape the slavewarrens in one piece. There are many [others] who were not as lucky. Here, take this burlap armor. It's not much but it should keep you safe.'

You say, 'others?'
Vahlara says, 'We have many wounded and they need bandages. If you can find any gloomingdeep silk, bring it to me and I can make more bandages. I'll reward you with whatever burlap armor pieces I can find.'
You will then see the following:
