Understanding Vitality

Accalon's Guide to Understanding Vitality

Have you recently noticed that new little bubble and arrows all over your exp bar? Have you been wondering what the heck that all means? This is the new visual interface for the Vitality system.

What is Vitality?

The best way to describe Vitality is as a resevoir which you tap into to give you double the XP you would normally earn for killing something. In otherwords, if you kill a Skeleton and it gives you 1% XP, if you have Vitality it will give you 2% XP instead. Once you run out of Vitality, you will gain XP at the same speed you would normally.

Understanding the Vitality Meter

This is what your XP bar looks like when you have no vitality. Notice the round bulb on the right hand side of the bar, currently it's dim and not lit. You can look at that at a glance to see if you're earning Vitality or not. When you are it will be a bright yellow. The number on the left if your current level.

In this image I scrolled over that glowing bubble and it is telling me that I currently have 11.9% Vitality. It's also telling me that durning this time I'll recieve double Adventuring XP. So what does 11.9% Vitality mean? It means that for the next 11.9% XP on my bar, I'll be getting double the XP per kill. As you can see, there is a little arrow on the top side of the bar that shows how far my Vitality will go. When my XP reaches that point, I'll start earning XP at a normal rate again.

In this example the Vitality is more than I actually have left in my level. With 91.6% Vitality, that is more than I actually have left until I ding, so there is a little arrow to the left of the Vitality bubble which signifies my Vitality will run into the next level. If you scroll over the little arrow itself, the second message will pop up.

Vitality applies to both adventuring and tradeskilling. By opening your Persona screen (hit P) you can view both at the same time. You can also right click on your Adventuring XP bar and click "Show tradeskill XP", and it will switch that bar. These Vitality pools are separate and using Vitality in one will not effect the other.

Replenishing Vitality

Every hour, on the hour, you will get .5% more Vitality to your pool. This means your Vitality pool is always increasing and giving you more opportunity to gain double XP. You will get this .5% whether you are online, offline, playing on an alt, taking a shower, dying 100 million times, or doing a jig. At this rate you'll gain 12% Vitality in 24 hours, or have 100% Vitality in 8.3 Days or about 1 week.

Making the most of your Vitality

There are a couple ways to make the most of your built up Vitality and make every little bit count. First of all, try to never let your vitality get up to 100%. Once it hits 100% then that .5% you would be getting at the top of the hour disappears and you'll never get to make use of that Vitality. A person who keeps their vitality at near empty is making the most of all that XP bonus and will level at the fastest rate. Secondly, try not to die. I guess this goes without saying, but when you have XP debt it cuts back on your vitality considerably.

Now that you have a much deeper understanding of the Vitality system in EQ2, you can make the most of your adventuring and tradeskilling adventures. Good luck!
