Magi's Journal of Worldly Travels In the days before the Searing Ascalon was a city beyond all beauty. Even the regions around the city such as Lakeside Country, Wizard's Folly and Reagent Valley were equally as beautiful. But then the Searing came, and with it the Charr invasions. The world has forever changed and times are much different. Though that does not mean the old world must be forgotten, that is not the case. Nor does it mean that the new world be dismissed either, for this is not the case at all. These are the reasons for this endeavor. On a weekly basis I will add more entries into my Journal of Worldly Travels that will illustrate every location in the world, old or new. But there will also be an additional component as well: there will be some commentary by the character illustrating these events, Gilon Silverwind, a Ranger. Most of what will be seen here are things already known to most veteran players but it could be a nice refresher to places seldom visited. For newer players, it of course provides a window into what they are bound to see, or have already seen. It is to be noted as well that not all locations will be visited but most will. We start today with the Lakeside Country, and a little bit of Ascalon City, though if ever brief. I, Gilon Silverwind, have never been fond of cities and I do prefer the outside world. It is not strange then that upon my arrival in Ascalon City that I did not wish to stay long, but some other calling convinced me to stay at least a little while. I don't know what exactly was going to happen but surely something was about to. I was not but a few minutes inside this wondrous city - and I must admit it is quite beautiful - when I was informed by a crier of sorts that Sir Tydus was looking for able bodied adventurers of sorts to help defend this city. I had known that the Charr had been an enemy for some time but had the situation become so dire? This may be the case so I decided to fulfill it. As I made my way towards Sir Tydus I could not keep my sight away from the brilliant architecture and the business of the streets. It truly was a city blessed by prosperity and brilliance but also one that was in a constant state of war as I was soon to find out. I reached Sir Tydus and he gave me an idea of what was going on, and much to my dismay the war with the Charr was growing and the threat was imminent. The Northern Wall which has much defended this city may give way and many would perish. Out of altruism I decided to help this city, but my skills had to be proven first. I then went to the beautiful Lake Country, a place that I shall never forget no matter how dark the days grow or what evil seems to surround us. Its land is green but it felt like autumn was coming into season as there was some brown leaves falling. Though not all is good in this beautiful land, many enemies inhabit the place and most importantly threaten the villagers of nearby towns, the Plague Worms for instance. But for now I do not wish to discuss those. I found a village in this Lake Country and it was a very typical farming village where all the townsfolk were minding their own business. Though that is not to say that there were no problems in this quiet little village, for that is far from the truth. The first sign of trouble was the prize-winning Hogs being scattered all over and farmers desperate to get them back. Villagers were also complaining about the aforementioned Plague Worms and all the while there is one Warrior who stood tall, and that is the legendary Devona. Many a tales in the history of Ascalon will be woven with the name of Devona and the battles with the Charr. In the future one need only to approach any citizen of Ascalon and they will be able to tell many tales of the great Warrior Devona. She is so great they say that she even fought in the royal company of Prince Rurik, surely a feat that no ordinary Warrior can accomplish. I did not bother her for the time, however. I mentioned before the problem of the Plague Worms and I decided to help out a farmer in this respect but a much more difficult challenge lay ahead of me then I suspected: I had to defeat the Queen Plague Worm. I did agree to this request and the farmer took me to the Queen. I arrived in the nearby fields where many other Plague Worms were. When the Queen appeared I immediately took out my long bow and I started unloading arrows on her. The battle was going good, her health was steadily going down where I was relatively unscathed but then a thought came into my mind: why aren't the other Plague Worms attacking? Could they not see my attacks on their Queen? Nevertheless I was glad that they did nothing and I easily took care of my opponent. The Queen Plague Worm was dead and the farmer was glad. I did notice that more Plague Worms were around but I suppose they may slowly disperse now since the Queen is dead. Though the farmer had one more request for me: he wanted me to head down to the Catacombs to retrieve his prized Moa bird, but he did not say anything more. I returned to town and noticed a beautiful waterfall so I stood by that, ever in thought. I hadn't been in the region for a long time and could not remember where the Catacombs lay, never mind the danger that will surely be presented before me. Fortunately a traveling adventurer saw me and told me that he heard the Catacombs were in Wizard's Folly so I decided to head there and of course thanked him. So I traveled past town and went towards Wizard's Folly and saw great white mountains in the distance. I didn't like the look of this, I never liked traveling in mountainous regions, never mind those covered in snow. Nonetheless, I want to help out the farmer and citizens of Ascalon as much as I could. To be continued... |
