Farming Trolls Outside of Droknar's Forge

Most people playing Guild Wars need to buy something at one time or another, so a good and consistent way to make money is often sought after. Farming usually pops immediately to mind, but most of the time, setting up a farming build is a costly affair. Making a 55 monk with all the fixings can cost upwards of 100k, considering the fluctuating cost of runes, and the offhand, in addition to the tattoos and the enchant mod needed for the weapon of choice, whatever that may be. This guide is designed to show how to farm with a warrior; much cheaper to set up than a 55, and in my experience, much easier to use. This build will not work for Underworld 2 man farming, but it works perfectly for troll farming outside of Droknars Forge. Farming trolls may be boring work, but it is very easy to grind out 10k an hour from the trolls outside of Droks. This guide assumes that you are level 20 and have completed both 15 attribute point quests. It is not necessary to have the extra 30 points, but it makes things go faster.

This guide assumes that you have Monk as your secondary.

I do this equipped with fairly cheap runes; Major Absorb on your chest, Minor Axe on your gauntlets, Major Vigor on your leggings, and Minor Strength on your boots. I wear full Gladiators armor, which I highly recommend for the energy; 15k is not necessary, but you do get points for looking cooler while you farm.

This is the best case scenario for item set:

However, if you can't get these items yet, just have a max damage axe, and a shield that gives health and absorbtion while enchanted.

Attribute point spread is as follows:

Skill bar is as follows:

From left to right, the skills are:

Sprint: Stance: For (Min: 8 - Max: 14) seconds, you move 25% faster.

Cyclone Axe: Axe Attack. Perform a spinning axe attack striking for +(Min: 4 Max: 12) damage to all adjacent opponents.

Gladiators Defense [Elite]: Elite Stance. For (Min: 5 - Max: 11) seconds, you have a 75% chance to block incoming attacks. Whenever you block a melee attack this way, the attacker suffers (Min: 5 - Max: 35) damage.

Bonetti's Defense: Stance. For (Min: 5 - Max: 11) seconds, you have a 75% chance to "block" incoming melee attacks and arrows. You gain 5 Energy for each successful melee attack blocked. Bonetti's Defense ends if you use a skill.

Endure Pain: Skill. For (Min: 7 - Max: 18) seconds you have an additional (Min: 90 - Max: 300) Health.

Vigorous Spirit: Enchantment. For 30 seconds, each time target ally attacks or casts a Spell, that ally is healed for (Min: 1 - Max: 14) points.

Live Vicariously: Enchantment. While you maintain this Enchantment, whenever target ally hits a foe, you gain (Min: 1 - Max: 14) Health.

Mending: Enchantment. While you maintain this Enchantment, target ally gains Health regeneration of +(Min: 1 - Max: 4).

Gladiators Defense can be capped from the Facet of Strength in the Dragon's Lair mission.

Here is a map on where to go once you exit Droks; the exit on into Talus Chute, near storage.

Once you get out of the exit, immediately put on Mending, then head to your left. The typical spawn around the area will consist of Trolls and Avicara, and every now and then there will be a Siege Ice Golem and some Dwarves. Just hug the side of the hill on your left, and sprint past everything to lose the aggro. Sometimes the path will be clear, and you won't even have to worry about the aggro, but for the most part, the spawns are annoying. Once you get to the mouth of the cave, allow your energy to fully regenerate, then cast Live Vicariously. With full Glads on, this leaves me with 22 energy. Proceed into the cave, and aggro all the trolls.

You may want to just stop and take the trolls in the front of the cave by themselves when you are just starting out, but pretty soon you'll want to just take the whole cave in one go. Run around the cave and gather the trolls without using Sprint. You have no energy regeneration at this point, and you need all the energy you have for other things. Just run until all the trolls are following you, and when you have enough trolls, just stop, and they will all group around you.

Immediately after you stop, cast Vigorous Spirit. By the time this is cast, the trolls should be surrounding and attacking you. Cast Cyclone Axe to gain all the health you lost getting set up, then cast Gladiators Defense. This will leave you with 2 energy if you are wearing full Glads. As soon as Gladiators Defense runs out, cast Bonetti's Defense. You shouldn't have a problem getting adrenaline due to the number of trolls hitting you. After this, all your energy management problems should be resolved. By the time Bonetti's ends, you should have full energy, and the frequency in which you cast it will ensure you stay close to full energy. After this, it is just a matter of maintaining Vigorous Spirit, which runs out every 30 seconds, and waiting for Gladiotors Defense to recharge. While you are waiting for the recharge, spam Bonetti's and Cyclone Axe, and be sure that Vigorous Spirit stays up at all times. Be sure to cast everything out of Bonetti's so as to avoid getting hit with a Disrupting Chop mid-cast. Just cast Bonetti's before you cast everything, and you shouldn't have to worry about getting disrupted. Hit Bonetti's, then hit Cyclone Axe. As soon as you hit Cyclone Axe, Bonetti's will recharge, because so many trolls will be hitting you. Hit Bonetti's again immediately after Cyclone Axe, and wait for the recharge. Cyclone Axe will recharge well before you come out of Bonetti's as long as you make sure not to cast anything else. Recast Gladiator's Defense as soon as it is recharged, but be sure not to stack it with Bonetti's Defense, because these are both Stances, and they don't stack; casting one after the other will merely cancel out the first one. When Vigorous Spirit runs out, do it the same way; cast Bonetti's, then Vigorous Spirit, then Bonetti's again, then Cyclone Axe. After you cast Cyclone Axe with both Vigorous Spirit and Live Vicariously on you, you should go back up to full health. If you start getting low on health, use Endure Pain as your panic button, and use Bonetti's and Cyclone Axe to make your way back up to full health. I must emphasize that Vigorous Spirit must be up at all times; otherwise, you won't get enough health from Cyclone Axe. Also, be sure to cast Bonetti's - Cyclone Axe - Bonetti's, one right after another, and you will be protected by Bonetti's while Cyclone Axe recharges. The trolls should die in two to three castings of Gladiators Defense. Just collect your drops and map back to drop, rinse, and repeat!

Be sure to buy an Identify Kit and identify the white items to get maximum value. Salvaging the many Raven Staff drops will yield wood, and you can head over to Sardelac Sanitarium and convert that to Parchment to sell for an even greater profit. Hope this was helpful, and enjoy! Just remember: cast everything out of Bonetti's, and constantly maintain Vigorous Spirit. Good luck!
