The Matrix Online Economy
The Matrix Online Economy
An agent chases you down a long alleyway. What do you do? Well if you were smart you would have purchased that kick ass ability from one of the local street vendors. Too bad you didnt.
The economy of the Matrix Online is really a game within itself. Imagine that the Matrix is like a big marketplace; where you can purchase special abilities, codes, and even clothes. Information is your currency. And just like money, you must work for your information. Its not going to be handed to you (that is unless you have an in game sugar daddy, buts thats another story). Information is the foundation on which the Matrix Online economy is built. Information can be gained by completing missions, selling items, and from winning a fight and then searching the losers body for info.
There is an endless amount of stuff you buy with your information. But before you spend all your hard earned info at the bar, I might make a few other suggestions. Investing your money in new items is a great and fast way to advance your character in the Matrix world. Of course you have to buy those rare, special, ultra-cool abilities. So where do you find them? Well around every hardline there are NPC's known as vendors. The vendors usually sell one of four things; Either codes, appareal, weapons, or abilities. They are all located within a 20-70 foot radius of most hardlines. Once you approach a vendor you can look at his inventory. Once you find that special item that you were looking for, you use your information to purchase it. Just like in real life, some of the items, especially appearal, can get really expensive. So once you spend all your hard earned information, it is time to go earn more.
Running out of inventory space? Well now that you are decked out in your new threads, have your loaded uzi at your side, and have a wealth of rare abilities to unleash upon an opponent you may decide to profit off all your old stuff. So where do you go? Well you can always just click your ruby slippers three times, or you can head on over to the nearest hardline.
Every hardline (phonebooth) has many options. But perhaps the most interesting, and most used feature would be the Marketplace option. All the sudden the hardline acts like a Matrix Ebay allowing you to sell items that are clogging up your inventory or items that you have no use for anymore. So you add the item to the marketplace and set a price. Not too high though. No one will pay 100,000,000 information for your old hat. The Marketplace is a good way to find other items that you may have not found otherwise and a good place to profit off your own stuff.
Having a player driven economy is one of the most useful and interactive features of the Matrix Online. It allows a level of interactivity and control that is not present in most games. It also breathes new life into the game. There may be no Matrix Online Wall Street or Economic supervisors, but remember that the fate of the Matrix Online economy lies in your hands, and your pocketbook. |
