Paladin

Paladin

Paladins have been around for many years, and they pretty much have stayed the same in terms of what the gaming population viewed them as being... valiant champions having the upper hand against undead. Even though they've been around for years in the RP world, it doesn't stop the gaming companies from skewing away from the true goals of a Paladin and become something rather generic as a fighter. We've seen this happen with EverQuest, where the Paladin class was very close to being the most unplayed class on the roster, due to other classes being far better than the Paladin himself.

However, with Vanguard there is promise of something different. They plan on making this class extremely useful in the undead realm, and at the same time not totally useless in other realms that a Paladin might waltz into.

So for example, a Paladin might get certain weapon skill bonus with the 2 Handed Swords, since they are renowned for using them. Along with their special mounts, which we are told are be part of the game early on. Sigil hasn't come out and given the lowdown on this class yet, but it seems they are very well aware of the past problems this class has had int he MMORPG world.

With that in mind, there is a window of oppurtunity for all Paladins at heart to possibly have a great time playing an MMO without feeling like they're the bottom of the barrel.

We don't beleive that this class will suffer the possiblity of being taken off the roster due to it's prestige and it's long history with MMORPGs. It would be foolish to make a high fantasy game without having Paladins.

What to expect from the Paladin Class

The Paladin class will be tank, therefore expect to be at the forefront of the action and possibly jump in to control a situation gone bad. Expect to have the edge over all undead, as well as a boost in proficiency with 2 Handed Swords. Heavy Armors and Armored Steed is probably something that will be common amongst the Paladins. A few Magic spells here and there, but probably more in the form of prayers.

DEV QUOTES

Based upon discussions I've had with Talisker, dont expect the paladin to be a heavyweight in the healing department. - Tagad

The Paladin for example is not a watered down warrior mixed with a watered down cleric. - Tagad
