CreasianDevaili - I sorry that I missed your original post on the 4th (away from my computer for a couple days) but I just wanted to add my thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Nurture his fighting spirit and give him a hug and kiss from Mynxy.
I consider myself to be a newbie. I am new to the MMO games and do not know much. And, in the boards I ran across a discussion of exactly what a newbie is. Is this a person unwilling to learn and play right or a true novice? I like the way that Serrick laid out his thoughts. There are "newbies" and "noobs". Novice (newbies) versus braindead (noobs). True entry level character versus someone who is just along for the ride. From my understanding a noob is someone who looks pretty but could not cut up a carrot. Morgander, is a noob what you are describing?
I forget who posted this statement "Brad stated that he liked the concept of different prices on various vendors" but I need an understanding (newbie here). Am I to understand that all vendors have been selling a cumquat for 6 piece of gold? Even I (old Ultima games) remember that the prices varied between the different towns. Especially when the town was a hard-to-get-to outpost or Buccaneers Den, prices seemed to be higher there. I am not sure about prices within the same town but I know throughout the world.
And to continue, input a search term to locate which vendor is selling the sword that I am looking for. Do you want me to put it in your hand? Paper or plastic you babies? Put the wares out on the table or in the showcase to let me see what you (or your NPC) sell. This isn't a race. Take your time and shop around. Wait a minute. This is a fantasy game so how about a fantasy Wal-mart?
Why do I and others like to play solo in a MMO? There are lots of different reasons. Next months edition of Computer Games had an article telling others why people like me prefer it. I already had a string of reasons in mind but I felt dignified to see them in print. Although and I quote "there is no such thing such as glory without an audience."
Big boobsStacey Goguen was also referring to the gaming industries vision of women. I called it superior upper body strength she comes out to say big boobs. Again I ask why? Stacey also asked about having men with bulging pants.
Yes, the world of rpgs has changed greatly since I've played. And never online. So I am referencing old, solo stuff. With moongates you found the right spot, waited until the moons were in their correct phase. When in correct position you and your party were transported to another place. Is instancing the same sort of thing? Is instancing a 21st century version of moongate action? So does this mean that instancing could have a bunch of people (in addition to your party) in the same spot at the same time? No wonder everybody is upset. Bummer. How does the Advanced Encounter System address this issue?
What is the difference? Are not they both short little pains in the behinds?
