FAQ - General MMOG Phillosophy
18.1.22 Should you start a beta with tons of stuff not working or not implemented yet, then introduce what is missing and fix as beta progress which is the usual path or go for a more finish product with almost everything in, and most of it in a working form?
That's the concern. Shorter, more focused 'beta' tests to test certain systems and mechanics don't allow you to test for all of the variables, the higher level content... the 'magic' of how the game truly feels and plays as it all comes together, including with a bunch of people for months.
Technically, most things were in EverQuest when we started beta except for content. While we grew the world from just being part of Antonica to the full 3 continents over 9 months we were able to slam the game mechanics and learn how to really populate a fun and challenging zone, etc.
I realize maybe more of this is already 'known' to MMOG developers, but I know I still want a longer test.
