Guild Politics - Building a Guild

Guild Politics - Building a Guild

I have been through at least 10 guilds by now, each with a different philosophy on how to reach the same end. Some reached this end far quicker than the others, mainly the "take anyone we can get then kick out the extras" types of guilds. These guilds are not the best way to go if your looking to build a good name for your guild, though, since these also tend to be the guilds that everyone is just waiting to find something wrong with, which doesn't take long when you have 100+ people that can act like jackasses. These guilds like to think that the people that hate them are just jealous but 9 outta 10 times the people that hate them never tried to get into their guild. Regardless, the guilds that tend to build the best names are those that offer a friendly environment and often a website. For those new at that there are always people to help you out; one of the better website services being LQGaming's Guild Services. There are also some factors that really help you start a guild and get its name noticed.

The first and most common method for getting your guild going is a macro spammed in every location you can think of or invite everyone you come across. This can have adverse reactions since some people find this sort of thing to be offensive, but most of the time this method works for getting people. If you're not careful though you could end up recruiting farmers and other unscrupulous players that can really bring a guild down. This method for recruitment is equally effective throughout the game and one of the most effective early game methods to build a guild. I don't recommend this method, since while it gets you people, the people you get will probably be a bigger heap of trash than Michael Moore, and he is already a pretty big heap. If you do this you will either get a guild that does things first or a guild that has no direction and never does anything.

The second method for getting a guild together is a realm forum post. These are either hit or miss; if people see it, you'll do great, if it gets knocked off the front page, be ready to bump it or else doom your guild to obscurity that is page 2+. Success with this method is all about timing and posting in a catchy way. I have yet to see a guild that has become truly successful with this method, which is why I recommend using this method in conjunction with something else such as a guild website or possibly method one. This method words best after there are established guilds since there will no doubt be leavers that you can pick up from some of the bigger guilds. Having something additional to offer with this method is crucial if you want to make and keep a guild.

The third method for getting a guild together is the group with them and invite them if their good method. This is something that many guilds do anyway, but some guilds do this exclusively. It is quite possibly the slowest method for building a guild, but once you get started it becomes a very productive guild. This method is founded on the idea of getting the right people for the guild, no matter how slow going it might be. The right people can vary greatly, from good players to people not concerned about loot and occasionally those into certain fetishes such as lighting your hair on fire while singing Michael Jackson songs. If you plan to use this method, start it early in the server's life or do it on a large server if you want to build up quickly. Otherwise be ready for a good 2+ months of working at it.

There are a million methods to build a guild, and everyone has their own. These are just the three I chose to use. Any method can probably fit into 1 or more of these other methods, but I know you all will make a bigger racket over this than Oprah at a buffet. Feel free to flame me all you want, there is nothing I can do to stop you. If you do though, at least have the balls to use your real game name instead of hiding behind some obviously fake name. Have fun.

If you want to build a guild its the simple method of invite those who youve seen play properly and help out the lil guy... other wise the whole game ends up being stoopid guilds with members that would rather dance in IF in their spare time then help out with missions...

you get will probably be a bigger heap of trash than Michael Moore and he is already a pretty big heap. Brilliant.

I am just starting a guild as a lower level player and I agree with you method about being exclusive. A great guild is found in its people not its numbers.
